Sappy trees, like maples, birches, walnuts, and elms, all ooze sap during the late winter and early spring. Avoid a sticky mess by trimming these trees during the warmer weather.  

 

 

Winter

Winter is a great time to prune your deciduous and evergreen trees, as there is less chance of insects and disease infecting any freshly cut limbs. Trees such as poplar, spruce, junipers, and cherry are best suited for trimming during this time.
